Our Housing and Environment Work-Stream is currently in an active phase of building partnerships and researching the strengths and challenges of the our town and surrounding villages.

Initial plans have seen us adopting a shared set of values, considering what “Better” looks like and drilling down on the different tenures of homes in different areas and how changing trends are impacting the lives of those living and working in Hartlepool.

Working with a “Homes First” we know that without a secure and good quality home in a neighbourhood that feel safe and welcoming, individuals and families find it difficult to progress. The threat of being moved on, the worry of damp or dangerous conditions, not feeling safe to come and go as you wish, nowhere to play and spend time with nature and the very real problem of postcode discrimination must be addressed.

Equally we know that landlords (social and private) can struggle to know what to do about homes in challenging areas plagued with vandalism and struggling to find tenants able to commit.

We know the issues are many and complex but we are committed to working together with our communities to identify ways to improve both the homes and the neighbourhoods most in need.
